Dear family and friends!
WOW! I feel as if that is the only adequate words to describe this week! It has been a whirlwind of emotions!!
Last Tuesday we were able to go on exchanges with our sister training leaders. I stayed here in Shaung He with Sister Brown. Fun fact Sister Brown served here for 6 moths so she was super excited to be able to be here on exchanges. That night we took a temple with Sally our recent convert. The topic was on preparing to go to the temple. The temple sisters did a fabulous job. We could really feel the spirit. At the end we gave her a date to be ready to go to the temple. She is really excited! It is so much fun to see them progress. I am super glad that I am able to work with her because she teaches me so much!!
Unfortunately our exchanges got cut short because a typhoon was coming. We had to exchange back right after studies the next day. President wanted all the missionaries in from 1 to 6pm that day. I was sad that I did not get in that much time with her but there is always next transfer.
However, when I was with her we had some BIG miracles.
We contacted one mom and son on the street. I start talking with the boy in English and give them an English tract. We talk to the mom for a bit and she talks about how so hard working we are. We asked her if we could exchange numbers and meet another day. She was like yes and I can come to church next Sunday! She told us how every time she sees missionaries she gets emotional. I am excited to meet with her next Sunday!!
Then we started talking to another lady. She tells us I'm looking for a church! We were like well ours is on bao ping lu... She told us okay one day I will stop by there. She told us how her dad was Christian and he died a few years ago. We arranged to meet with her on Friday but we think because of the rain she did not come. We are praying that one day she will just stop by the chapel when we are there.
Friday we had arranged with a potential investigator to go to her house. She writes in my planner Zhong Zheng Lu. I look at the map and find A Zhong Zheng Lu. We get to the road I immediately pull over feeling something is definitely not right. I call the investigator and start describing what I am seeing and she is like I have no idea where you are. We go and ask some people if they know this address no one does. We finally get to a place where there is a guard. I give him the address and he asks does she live in Yong He or Zhong He. I told him I do not know. He then goes on to explain Yong He and Zhong He both have that road. In fact every city in Taiwan has that road. Right at this moment she calls and the guard tells me give me the phone I will talk to her. They talk and to find out I am in Zhong He and she is in Yong He!!! I was like you have got to be kidding me!! She told us, “It's ok we can meet next week” because it would have taken us about 45 minutes to get to her house from where we were. The good thing is she had a really GREAT attitude!
That night when we call to let our district leader know we are home I asked him do you know that there are two Zhong Zheng Lu. Elder Farrell was like yes. I told him I didn't and about this story. He got a good laugh out of it. I have to admit it is really funny. This is another one of those humbling moments.
Friday night was my child hood dream fulfilled. There is a boy band called Beyond 5. They are all Mormon. They are here in Asia on a service mission. President was nice enough and told us that if we had a recent convert or investigator go we could accompany them. Sally our recent convert went and we were able to eat dinner with her beforehand and then together go to the concert. It was the best night of my life! We were so close! Sister Koch and I both almost fainted. JK I think? It was fun but now I really understand why they tell missionaries to listen only to certain kinds of music because man lovey music makes you trunky. Elder Farrell told Sister Koch and I don't get too excited about Beyond 5 they are not "that great". I was like true but it was a childhood dream fulfilled on my MISSION!! I told his it's a sing Heavenly Father loves me!
Saturday was a day of miracles! We had a member referral lesson and the rest of the day was contacting!! We meet with Li XJ and taught her the first lesson. At the end we were able to give her a BOM and invite her to start reading and praying every day. She set up to meet with us next Saturday too!!!
Saturday night rolls around and I felt that we should go to Ren Ai Park instead of our original plan. We pray and feel good about it. We went and the first women we talk to was like yeah I have seen missionaries. We gave her and English tract and went on our way. We then started talking to this grandma and she was like sit down. We sat down and had a nice overview of the first lesson with her. At the end we gave her a BOM. At first she was like I would feel too bad to take it. I told her no we want to give this book to everyone. She then was like thanks I love to read. She was not willing to give us her number but we gave her ours.
Then we are about to leave because we have a ward activity and pass this lady. My companion then turns back and goes can I give you this tract. The lady is like sure. I then felt that we should take to her for a bit. I asked her if we could sit next to her. She was like yes. I then explain that we our missionaries and she tells us I know. She told us she has friends in our church and has been with them a couple times to our church. We then have a lesson with her. At the end we tried to give her a BOM and she told us let me finish the Bible and then I will take the BOM. We were sad but know that we tried our best.
Sunday Zhen li was able to have her baptismal interview with Elder Farrell!! She passed with flying colors. He told us how smart she is. We told him we know! I am so grateful that God has given me the opportunity to teach her. Through teaching her I have learned so much! Her baptism is set for this Saturday!!! I am so excited!!!
Well that's the week in a nut shell!
Oh I forgot!
We talked to Midny the less active teenager that we gave the BOM to. She told us that she ended up giving the BOM to her friend who wants to meet with us!! I was like that is awesome! The problem is this girl's parents are Buddhists so it is hard to her to meet with us. However, Mindy is going to bring her to church next week and we are going to meet with her after church.
The church is true, the book is blue and God is a Mormon.
Love,
Sister Latimer
